If you’ve ever looked up a brand/ business on Google, I’m sure you’ve seen a little box on the side with all of their information. That box is called a knowledge panel. If you represent a business online, it is absolutely necessary for your brand to have a knowledge panel. It helps people contact and locate you. It’s like a business card for your brand.
If that isn’t convincing enough, the knowledge panel also helps to improve the SEO of your website as Google collects information from various sources online and adds it to your brand.
Now that we’ve established why it’s important for your brand to have an online presence, let’s look at how to get one:
1. Create a google brand account
The first thing that you need to do is build a google account specifically for your brand. A business account is different from a personal account in that you can have multiple people access it.
2. Optimize the SEO of your website
Once you make a google account, update it with all relevant information regarding your business. When you link your social media accounts to your google knowledge panel, it increases the SEO rank of your website. Make sure you also include your website, biography, any press release etc to increase the credibility of your knowledge panel. Good quality information is necessary for google to approve your information.
Some key factors that your verification will depend on are:
Do you have a website?
Does your business have social media accounts?
Does your brand name appear in notable press releases or articles?
3. Submit your website to the Google Search Console
Now Google needs to identify that the information provided by you is authentic. They’ll cross-verify your website and other information to check whether you are who you’re claiming to be.
This process should take 4-5 days of time. After which, you will see a little box appearing for your search results very soon. If you don’t see any update after a week, try adding more information to your google brand account. It is important that you keep checking and updating your links and content frequently to get verified.
4. Get verified on Google
After a few days, you’ll notice a knowledge panel with your information. At the bottom of the box, there will be an option: “Do you manage the online presence for..”
Once you click on it, you’ll be directed to the brand verification form. You will have to upload proves of login to several of your brand social media accounts. It helps to provide as many details as you can. After you apply, Google will usually send you an email within a few days on the status of your application.
Now that you know how to get a Google information panel, go ahead and create a professional look for your brand right now!
